More Scribble Scrabble Goodness

Hello, Crafters!
Yesterday I showed you my Thanksgiving Blessings Can. Today, I thought I would show you some more of my place setting: the name card and the napkin ring. I would show you the placemat now, but, well, it's not quite done yet. Oops. Oh well. I promise to show it once it's finished :) Anyhow...Remember that you can see this place setting, as well as the place settings from the other Design Team members, in the store.

First, the napkin ring. Easy, peasy. Remember that red tape we used yesterday? We're going to use it again today. Use it to attach some of your leftover Distress-Stained ribbon to your burlap ribbon that you've cut long enough to hold a napkin. Staple the ends together to make a loopy ring. Punch a cardstock circle (or cover a chipboard circle with patterned paper like we did yesterday), and red tape it over the seam of your napkin ring. Layer another Distress-stained circle over the top of your first circle. Tie a knot in a scrap of your Distress-stained ribbon. Cover the top circle with diamond glaze and lay the knot into the glue to dry. That's it! Easy, huh? Especially since we were just using leftovers and scraps from yesterday's project!

And now for the name card... Cut a length of patterned paper (mine is approximately 2x6 inches - I'm just guessing here. I don't measure), and fold it in half. Ink the edges with brown ink. Cut a strip of coordinating paper 1/2x3 inches and layer on the front of your card. Choose a My Mind's Eye Lost and Found 2 label sticker, mat it on patterned paper, and attach it to the top. Add 2 brads to decorate. Write or stamp the name of the person who's seat this will be with brown ink.

Open your card. Cut a small rectangle of ledger paper or a piece of coordinating cardstock, and glue it to the inside as a small journalling spot. Stamp or write the words. "Grateful for:" at the top. Provide a pen so your guests can write what they are grateful for during Thanksgiving dinner. After dinner, reclaim your craftiness (hehehe) and add it to a scrapbook page - Journalling Done!

Thanksgiving Blessings Can

Hello All!

I hope everyone has recovered from their sugar overload this past weekend and is having fun scrapping their Halloween festivities! But, in case you are ready to move on to our next fall holiday, I would like to show you how I made my Blessings Can for this Thanksgiving. Christy has asked each of us to design a fall table setting to help everyone get in the mood, and you can find these place settings in the store if you want to see them in real life.  I have been playing with the new Scribble Scrabble line of papers, embellishments from My Mind's Eye Lost and Found 2 line, Tim Holtz distress stains, and some super-fun dyeable ribbon that Christy has in the store.

First, gather your supplies. Find a can that you would like to alter. I had this hot chocolate can left over from last winter, so that's what I used, but any can will work.

Measure and cut your paper to go around your can. My paper wouldn't completely cover the entire circumference, so I cut some coordinating paper to fill in the gaps.

Line the edges of your paper with tacky red tape. This tape is AWESOME. Nothing sticks better. It holds everything. I love it. It is my go-to adhesive for ribbon, fibers, and chipboard, as well as for hard-to-stick items like metal cans.

Peel the red liner off and tape the paper to your can, being careful to line the edges up the first time. The Good News: this red tape sticks WELL. The Bad News: if you goof and stick it wrong, your paper may tear when you try to reposition it. Bottom Line: Be careful. You have been warned :)

Next, measure and cut your My Mind's Eye Burlap Ribbon to fit around the can.

Pick out what colors of Tim Holtz Distress Stain that you want to use to colorize your ribbon. I used Antique Linen, Mustard Seed, Frayed Burlap, and Brushed Corduroy. Lay out the ribbon on your non-stick craft mat so that when you ink the ribbon, you can still use the excess ink, and it won't be wasted.

 Dab some ink directly onto the craft mat. Dabbing multiple colors will give a multi-colored, dimensional look to the ribbon.

Swirl your ribbon around in the ink on the craft mat to soak up the ink. This gives the ribbon a nice splotchy, inky look (If you want your ink to be even all the way down the ribbon, then apply the ink dabber directly to the ribbon. Both ways work. They just give different results. Have fun experimenting).

 Add a line of red tape down the center of the burlap ribbon, and adhere the inked ribbon to the burlap ribbon.

Add another line of tacky red tap to the back of the burlap ribbon, and adhere it to the can. Again, be careful to place it exactly where you want it to be.

Now go find some old chipboard or die-cut shapes that you have lying around your stash (you know you have some, right?)

Now 'color' your chipboard by dabbing the ink directly onto it. The more layers of ink you dab, the darker the color will be. This ink is amazing and makes it very easy to customize any supplies you may have.

Adhere your chipboard shape to the front of your can (red tape again - detecting a trend?)

Punch a circle to fit on top of your chipboard or die-cut circle and glue it down (glue sticks work well here - need to conserve that precious red tape!)

Pick your favorite label from the Lost and Found 2 sticker sheet and mount on patterned paper scraps. Trim to fit, and ink the edges with brown ink.

Cover your top chipboard circle (which I colorized with Frayed Burlap Distress Stain) with diamond glaze or other clear, liquid glue.

Lay your label sticker into the glue to dry (I added 2 brads to the label first, just to dress it up a little bit).

And now you're done! Once your glue dries, you can fill the can with your written-down blessings or whatever you want! If you go into the store to see mine, I tied tags to candy sticks with Blessings written on the tags. Cute Cute Cute!

Since the stores are doing it...

Then I am doing it!  That's right; it is ONE day after Halloween, and I am posting about Christmas! ha ha!  Actually, my Christmas motivation does not come from the stores;  No, it comes from my yearly (broken) promise to myself to GET CHRISTMAS STARTED EARLY!!  Yes!  This is MY YEAR...I will make handmade cards, gift tags & cute decorations to sprinkle ALL over my house!  Yes, everyday I will create for the holidays!  I will create so many lovely banners and crafty paper goodness, that I might even need (gasp!) TWO trees!  I am SO sticking with the plan this year.  See? I've already gotten started!  With the help of some CUTE new Holiday arrivals at Scraphappy,  I have officially kicked off on my quest...ONE whole tag & ONE whole layout, done! (I used our new Fancy Pants "Saint Nick" for both....Just one of our precious new lines in the store!)  By the way, I need to mention that, SOMETIMES I can be a bit over-zealous and tend to procrastinate with projects....but not this year of course!  wink wink.

I think it's FALL! I love this time of year. It's COOL like in not  Hot.

I have mini book of a different kind for you today. It’s made from left over toilet tissue rolls.  You know, what you
have after the paper is gone. 

You can also use the rolls from wrapping paper.  You will use one roll for the front cover and one for the back.   The four that are left, you will need to punch out (on one side only) a half circle at one end.  This will make the four inside pages of the book a pocket page for tags that can be used for pictures or to journal on.  

 

All of the pages were covered with paper and distressed with ink.  All of the tags need to be cut down so the will slide easily in and out of the page pockets.   Some of the tags I covered one side with paper and some I just inked with distress.

When all the pages are finished ...just use the Bind-it-All to bind it together. You can buy the o-wire at Scraphappy and use the Bind-it-All there if you don't have one. Add pictures and you have a mini book made from scraps!

Flowers! Flowers! Flowers!

Hi everyone! I am excited to show you another fun flower embellishment. I know I showed you a flower technique last time too, but I just can't help myself. I love flowers! It's a good thing I'm having a second daughter so I can do even more girly embellishments.

For this flower, you will need a scrap of paper, scissors, tweezers and glue. This is a great flower to make when you're finished making a scrapbook page, mini album or other project. You always have some leftover scraps and you can add a little something special to your finished project.

Cut a circle from your scrap of paper. It doesn't have to be perfectly round as you can see from mine! At this point, you can also ink the circle, wad it up and wrinkle it or any other distressing you'd like. It really adds to the finished product. The size of your circle determines the size of your flower.

Next, cut the circle into a spiral shape as shown below. Again, it doesn't have to be perfect! This is my kind of flower because I do not like to measure! Changing the width of your spiral will completely change the look of your flower. Play around with different widths and see which ones you like the best. After you've cut your spiral, use your tweezers to hold onto the end. Start twirling the paper around and around the tweezers.

You will end up with your flower shape. Put some glue (I prefer tacky glue) at the bottom of your flower to hold the shape.

Its best to use double sided paper with these flowers because both sides will show.

Below is the finished product. I also added some leaves and paper curls to accent. I will probably also add some stickles to the finished product because I just can't leave them alone! ;-)

This is also a sneak peak of part of my table decorations for our November Thanksgiving table at Scraphappy. We are making an entire place setting out of paper! Scrapping in a Snap!!

As crafters, we all get busy a lot of times and feel like we run out of time to enjoy our hobby.  Or maybe if you are new to crafting, you feel a little overwhelmed and are unsure of where to start.  Well, I have an easy solution to remedy both of these worries...MINI ALBUMS!  Mini Albums are very versatile.  They can be themed for specific events...Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Christmas, Halloween, Birthdays, Vacations...the list goes on and on.  And one of the best things about Mini Albums, is the time it takes to get it done and you have a completed project on hand within an hour or so!!  And we all love that!

An easy way to get your mini completed quickly, is to choose coordinating products.  A lot of times as a Scrapbooker, I tend to over-think my pages and I end up taking way longer to complete a page than I should.  But for a mini that you are using for a themed event, just grab some products that go together and start playing!  You can't go wrong!!

Another great aspect of the mini is, that you can do them way ahead of time.  If you know you want a mini, say for your Christmas activities, then you know that all of the Christmas goodies will be in at ScrapHappy early.  So grab some of your favorite products and go ahead and get that book DONE!  Then you can enjoy your holiday and once you have all of those awesome pictures from your families' Christmas festivities, just print them out and pop them in your book.  These pre-made mini's are also very AWESOME gifts for your family and friends!

Hello Fall

As a native New Yorker you would think what I miss most about the Big City would be the people, the lights, shows, window shopping, the food....well I do kind of miss the food :)
But what I REALLY miss the most is FALL! Long Island and Upstate New York are absolutely breathtaking at this time of year. The colors of the changing leaves, the crispness in the air, oh it is so beautiful! SO...when I walked in Scraphappy and the first thing I saw was Little Yellow Bicycle's "Hello Fall!" paper I wanted to buy it all and wallpaper my house with it! But I refrained and contented myself to make the gorgeous projects shown here! With this paper anything you make comes out beautiful!
The Wreath is my favorite. You can come make one this Thursday night at Scraphappy! They are so much fun to make and so pretty hanging up!

Well, I was not done with this paper yet! I then went on to make this adorable Solo Shadow Box from 7 gypsies! Comes in black or white, which did not matter for the one I made because I covered it in some earthy brown paper that went so well with this Fall Paper!

Last but not least, I made some of these cute Halloween favors. One picture is showing it closed and the other is open showing some candy :) The Cute "Bat Boy" on the front is from My Little Shoebox, Monster Crossing paper. Isn't he cute! I just cut him out and glued him on. He could be like a "Flat Stanley" only we could call him "Flat Bat Boy". This little favor holds 6 pixie sticks just perfectly.
